After we spent all week beaching it up in Menorca, Bryant and I felt like we need a bit of a change! So we booked last minute tickets to Zurich, Switzerland, and I am SO glad we did because it was absolutely magical!
We did not know a lot about traveling through Switzerland, but luckily it was a super easy place to get around. It was also EXPENSIVE! Seriously, a meal at a restaurant would sometimes be up to $30-$40 a person! So I definitely recommend reading some of our travel tips and saving while you adventure!
The train system is amazing in Switzerland. It is extremely easy to get around even if you have no experience with trains. We bought an 8 day pass at the airport because we calculated that it would be cheaper than renting a car. It was a little less than $100 a day for the two of us, and obviously a rental car would be way more than that. There are also some spots that require a cable car or gondola to get to and if you buy the pass then you don't have to pay to use those either which is rad!
The hotels we stayed at during our stay were:
Hotel Silberhorn, Frutt Resort (literally my favorite hotel we've ever stayed at!), and Villa Honegg (the place with the epic infinity pool!). We stayed at some others too but I wouldn't recommend them so they're not gonna be on this blog post ;)
We headed straight to Interlaken our first night and stayed there. We actually had some amazing pizza (believe it or not the pizza was better in Switzerland than Italy.. lol sorry Italy) and there was an outdoor concert in the park. I loved the vibes of this town! Wish we could've stayed longer!
Then we took the train to Lauterbrunnen where we stayed for just a night. Lauterbrunnen is magical - there's a waterfall right in the town! Oh and I had the best strawberries of my LIFE! They were like sweet soft candy and we ate them with whole fat greek yogurt. Yum.
There's a ton of hiking to do in Lauterbrunnen but I don't recommend the little hike up to the waterfall - it actually doesn't give you a view of the waterfall at all, haha. We fell for that trap! But it's really easy to look up trails and just pick whatever fits your needs.
Our first day we explored Wendel which is the little town on the hill next to Lauterbrunnen. We took a bus up and the views were incredible! We hiked around and ended up walking all the way back down to Lauterbrunnen which took about 40 minutes. The lighting wasn't great and I really wanted a photo up there, so we went back for sunset and I'm so glad we did because we met the sweetest Lindsey Boluyt and she offered to take our photos!
We walked by this little secluded spot that overlooked the valley and waterfalls and shot there for sunset. There were sheep nearby and it was just so much fun! Bryant was a really good sport too ;)
Watching the sun light up the snowy mountain tops made for a magical evening.
The next day we took a cable car and train up to Murren, which is another little town up on the mountain next to Lauterbrunnen. I highly recommend making it a point to visit this spot - there are dozens of hikes in the area and it is beyond beautiful! Plus the view over the valley is out of this world. We stayed there just one night but if you have more time then I highly suggest going on a long hike to see even more.
We did some exploring and just sat in awe of the mountains here. It actually reminded me a little bit of the mountains in parts of Utah!
After Murren we spent the next day traveling to the Frutt resort - they invited us up to their little lake nestled in the mountains and I'm so glad they did because it was honestly my favorite hotel I've ever stayed at! The staff was SO nice, the food was freaking delicious, the view out our window was unreal, and they had a BOWLING ALLEY!!! We had so much fun haha! They also had a gym and was right on the most beautiful lake. There were wildflowers everywhere. I've definitely stayed at some fancy hotels but this was more low key and family friendly which is our style. We stayed there for two nights and spent our time enjoying the hotel and exploring the mountains near by.
Our last stop was the famous and beautiful Villa Honegg! You may have seen photos of the incredible infinity pool before overlooking Lake Lucerne. It was as dreamy in person as it was in photos! We seriously took every chance to swim in the pool!
Villa Honegg was so friendly and helpful to us. It was some of the best service we've ever had! The rooms were beautiful and we had a huge balcony. There's also tons of hikes to do in the area! It's definitely a fancy spot and not affordable for many travelers, but if you get the chance to go then definitely take it! We are so grateful for our stay there!
Thanks for the mems Switzerland!! You were a dream!!
As always I LOVE to hear from ya, so if you read this blog post I'd love it if you left me a comment so I know I'm not just sharing all of this with no one ;)
