The Wander Workshop
Oahu. 4 days. 20 girls. Photo. Video. Adventure.
This past week Lo and I hosted The Wander Workshop for the second time! Our first one was on the Big Island of Hawaii but this time around we wanted to bring the girls to our home island: Oahu. We got together for 4 epic days of learning all about photo + video, social media, business, and editing. We couldn't have asked for a better group of incredible women. They inspired me as I grew to learn about them and love them!
On the first day we hiked up into the mountains and not only taught them about travel photos but spent some time one-on-one with each of them to set up their camera settings and answer any questions they might've had! Surprisingly it was pretty cold up there and we ended up being on the mountain a little longer than planned, but the girls hit it off and pretty soon everyone was quickly becoming friends.
That night we gave them all their "swag bags" - adorable tote bags filled with fun products from some of our sponsors including Thread Wallets, KUVRD universal lens caps, and lots of fun swimsuits and jewelry! We're pretty stoked because we honestly got some rad companies who contributed and it felt like Christmas!
After we showed them a video we made all about social media, business, and finance - it was supposed to be a 3 hour presentation but since everyone had just flown in we were all pretty tired so we watched about an hour of it and then sent them the link to watch the rest later!
The second morning we went straight to the beach to shoot my model friend Kate for Rhythm Swimwear! We practiced shooting for product and switched between fashion shots and adventure / lifestyle photos. The ladies got some amazing pics and video from it! Kate did amazing and is such a babe. We watched the massive North Shore waves crash and create foam that covered the sand. Between all the rain showers and sunlight, we got to know each other a little more as we hung out on the beach!
After grabbing lunch at the food trucks we hopped in the vans to my friend Keliko's house! Okay so first of all, this girl is AMAZING. She works in a taro field, was born at the foot of the mountains of Kualoa Ranch, speaks fluent Hawaiian, is so full of sunshine and good energy, and is just overall incredible. I feel lucky to even know her! She was kind enough to let us shoot in her backyard - and give us a little cultural lesson.
We styled a bridal session with Madison Mealy and her husband Blake! The backdrop of the mountains was unreal and we were all freaking out a little. The evening was spent practicing posing, shooting photos of each other, and laughing until our stomachs hurt. Oh and we tried to do a jumping pic.. those are always fun!
The next morning we woke up bright and early and headed to the west side of the island. We hopped in some of the clearest blue water I've ever seen and spent a few hours learning about underwater photography! Our good friend Ben Ono came out and gave us the run down of equipment and safety, and answered all of their questions!
We lucked out and the weather was perfect. We baked under the sun and fought the current to stay close to shore while we took photos and video in the ocean. We saw a Hawaiian monk seal, turtles, and lots of fish! I think for most of the girls this was their favorite class!
After we grabbed lunch at the mall and then drove back to the North Shore and watched the sun go down. That night we had an editing class and got served yummy acai bowls. I'm pretty sure everyone was exhausted!
On the last day we woke up before the sun and kayaked out to a little island! It was sooo cold but worth it once we saw that amazing view at the top! We spent our last hours together taking photos, laughing, and exploring the tiny island we had all to ourselves.
I will never forget this experience we all got to share with each other! Every single one of these women are so talented, kind hearted, and amazing. I feel so lucky we got to spend time together!! I can't wait to see where life takes them!
Until next time my beautiful new friends!!
